Dr. Shaobin Huang obtained his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from South China University of Technology in June 1995. He was promoted to Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at South China University of Technology in April 2003. In June 2012, he assumed the position of Associate Director of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Atmospheric Environment and Pollution Control. Since September 2017, he has served as the Director of the Guangdong Ecological Environment Control Engineering Technology Research Center. Since 2005, he has been a Distinguished Professor at the State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering. Dr. Huang has presided over six projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), one sub-project of the National Key Research and Development Program, three Sino-Canada International Cooperative Projects, as well as numerous provincial and corporate research projects in the fields of environment and chemical engineering.
Main research and application fields include: Conducted research and application on the phenomenon of aerobic nitrification and denitrification in the field of efficient biological filtration for nitrogen removal from urban sewage and industrial wastewater; established the first industrial flue gas biofiltration NOx remove denitrification system; conducted research and application on efficient biological filtration for the removal of VOCs and odor elimination; applied efficient biological filtration technology to the management and restoration of wetlands such as river and lake waters; conducted research on the release and control of malodorous gases (such as hydrogen sulfide) and greenhouse gases (such as NOx) from polluted water bodies, which has laid a good research foundation for further controlling the release of atmospheric pollutants from the source; explored the reduction and resource utilization of municipal and industrial sludge, and conducted research and industrialization on the pyrolysis of biomass solid waste to produce combustible gas, liquid, and solid fuels, while also conducting research on efficient biofilm wastewater treatment and reuse technology; conducted research and industrialization on the anionic, nonionic, and cationic modification of natural polysaccharides (such as cellulose, starch, and guar gum), and successfully applied these modified products as flocculants, scale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, skincare additives, and various water treatment agents; some of the developed photocatalytic materials have excellent performance and can rapidly degrade organic pollutants in aqueous and gaseous phases within a short period of time. Preliminary formed a virtuous cycle between technology development and the application of scientific and technological achievements. Many patents in the fields of environmental engineering and environmental functional materials have been transferred and widely applied. Invited multiple times to conduct academic exchanges in the United States, Canada, Israel, and other countries.
Published over 275 papers in domestic and foreign journals such as Applied Catalysis B, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Bioresource Technology, Chemical Engineering Journal, Chemosphere, Microbiology Ecology, Ecological Engineering, and Science of Total Environment; over 152 papers indexed by SCI; led more than 10 provincial research achievements; obtained over 45 invention patents; 1 PCT international invention patent; trained over 100 PhD and master's students.
I has served as a reviewer for over seventeen academic journals, including: Environmental Science & Technology, Water Research, Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, Bioresource Technology, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Environmental Research, Journal of Environmental Management, and Biochemical Engineering Journal.
On March 1, 2024, I was appointed as an expert for the review of the 2023 National Science and Technology Award, specifically the National Technology Invention Award. I has also been involved in international cooperation projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Foundation review processes.
