  • Understand of Late Precambrian processes in the Arabian-Nubian Shield and the formation, growth and preservation of the continental crust during the Pan-African Orogeny, especially the Neoproterozoic crust of Egypt. These processes and products are studied using a wide range of analytical techniques, including major and trace element analyses by XRF, electron microprobe, scanning electron microscope, Raman spectroscopy, laser-ablation inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) of polished rock sections, solution-source ICP-MS of rock powders, radiogenic isotopic compositions of Sr, Nd, and Pb , and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) for U-Pb geochronology of zircons. Also, the detailed petrological modeling using thermodynamic and mass-balance approaches is used.
  • Discovery of new mineral deposits and/or the further development of existing ones.
  • Understand the association of important mineral deposits (such as gold, chromite, magnesite and talc) with carbonated peridotites, especially gold in the listwaenites.
