Dr. Abbas Mamudu is an Assistant Professor of Process Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. He holds a Ph.D. in Oil and Gas Engineering from Memorial University, as well as Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Benin, Nigeria. With over a decade of combined academic and industry experience, Dr. Mamudu has established himself as a leading researcher and educator in petroleum and process engineering.
His research portfolio includes over 45 peer-reviewed publications in top-tier journals and international conferences. Dr. Mamudu’s work is distinguished by his integration of machine learning (ML) and physics-informed ML (PIML) into petroleum engineering applications, particularly in predictive modeling, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), reservoir management, and production optimization. He has also contributed significantly to the fields of process safety, carbon capture and storage, and energy transition technologies.
Dr. Mamudu has held various leadership roles in academia and industry, including serving as a Quality Control Manager and leading multidisciplinary research teams. He is actively involved in graduate supervision, curriculum development, and academic administration. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
