Dr. Saleem Jaffar| Entomologist | Postdoctoral Researcher | Chemical Ecology | Insect Toxicology | Insect Gut Microbes| Pest Management Expert | Bactrocera |Honey bee Gut Microbes.
I am a dedicated entomologist specializing in Bactrocera fruit flies, chemical ecology, insect toxicology, and gut microbiota. Currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at South China Agricultural University (SCAU), Department of Entomology, I hold a Ph.D. in Plant Protection (Entomology), where my research advanced innovative pest management strategies. My work integrates molecular tools (RNA-Seq, CRISPR-Cas9, olfactory receptor characterization), microbial ecology, and behavioral studies (pheromone-mediated olfaction) to develop sustainable solutions for Bactrocera control.
During my Ph.D., I investigated cytochrome-mediated detoxification, insect-microbe interactions, and methyl eugenol (ME)-based attractants for fruit fly management.
With 20+ SCI peer-reviewed author and co-authors publications in (Entomologia generalis; insects; Physiological Entomology; Horticulturae; Frontiers in Microbiology; IJMS), I bridge fundamental and applied entomology— to RNAi-based pest control for tephritids.
My Expertise Spans:
Molecular & Chemical Ecology: Olfactory receptors, pheromone applications.
Microbiome Research: Gut microbiota’s role in microplastic degradation, pesticides resistance in insect and their behavior.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Field trials, RNAi, and CRISPR-Cas9 innovations.
Committed to translating research into real-world impact, I collaborate globally to address challenges in agricultural entomology and biodiversity conservation. To explore synergies in sustainable pest management!
Key Skills: RNA-Seq, microbial diversity assays, GC-MS, behavioral bioassays, taxonomic identification, CRISPR-Cas9, statistical modeling (R, Python).
