- Cellular activity and its coordination with metabolism: We are interested in studying the coordination of cellular activity and metabolism at the cellular and molecular levels. Cellsmust adjust their activity along with the rate of metabolism and energy expense. Several studies have shown that energy generation, energy utilization, and cellular activity are closely linked at the molecular level. Cell surface receptors, signaling pathways, and transcription factors are expected and shown to mediate such processes at various levels. Particularly AMP-dependent kinase integrates cellular activity with the metabolism and energy generation in most of the cells. We are interested in studying the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT),neuronal diseases, and cancer because we believe that these conditions are related to the altered coordination between energy metabolism and cellular activity.
