Dr. Maria Rizzo is a doctor in veterinary medicine and researcher with extensive experience in animal physiology, welfare, and stress response, with a particular focus on inflammatory, metabolic, and circadian mechanisms in domestic and farm animals. She obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Messina and completed a PhD in Experimental Sciences Applied to Animal Organisms.
She has held several research positions at the University of Messina, where she is currently a Research Fellow in the Department of Veterinary Sciences. Her research activities include experimental and field studies on animal welfare, environmental stressors, metabolic disorders, and infectious diseases, combining laboratory analyses with innovative non-invasive methodologies.
Dr. Rizzo is also an active clinical veterinarian, working in emergency and internal medicine, intensive care, and diagnostic imaging. She has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals and has contributed to numerous national and international research projects.
Her scientific interests span veterinary physiology, animal welfare assessment, livestock management, stress biomarkers, and the interaction between animals and their environment. Dr. Rizzo regularly collaborates with multidisciplinary research teams and is committed to promoting high-quality scientific research and ethical standards in veterinary science.
