Danijela Spasić has obtained her B.A. degree, M.A. degree and her Ph.D. degree in Security (Criminology) from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Security. She is a full professor of: Criminology, Police and Society, Police and Gender Equality, Gender and Security at the University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies, Belgrade. She is lecturing at all three levels of higher education at the University. She is a member of the American Society of Criminology - Division of Policing. She completed the Women in Leadership Position (ICITAP) training (2021). She led the Project Analysis of Weapons Abuse and Impact on Gender-Based Violence through Civic Action and Public Policy Advocacy, within the MATRA Program of the Embassy of the Netherlands (2016-2017). She was engaged as a police expert on the international research project Community-Based Policing and Post-Conflict Police Reform - ICT4COP as a member of the Network of Police Experts - PEN (under Horizon 2020).
She participated in the implementation of Specialist training programs for police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the prevention of domestic violence, in the thematic areas of victimization aspects and protection of victims of partner and family violence (2017-2022). She participated in the implementation of training program for police officers and students on the victimization aspects of gender-based violence (2011-2012).
Major lines of her research, professional work and expertise are in violent crime causation, violent victimization, protection of crime victims, security and victimological aspects of gender-based violence, as well as the police work with vulnerable social groups. Her most recent research interests focus on cultural stereotypes impacting police perceptions and response to violent and sexual victimization of women, children, ethnic minorities and other vulnerable social groups, as well as the media representations of crime, victimization and crime victims. She researches the position and role of women in the security sector, women's human rights and the principles of gender equality. She has authored or co-authored over 100 research publications and participated in several national and international scientific projects.
