The Influence of Absorption on the Amplitudes of Emission Lines in Whispering Gallery Modes of a Spherical Microresonator with a Luminescent Shell
Abstract
The influence of absorption in the shell material on the amplitudes of lines of the TE and TM polarized whispering gallery modes (WGMs) in the emission spectrum of a microresonator structure consisting of a spherical core covered with a luminescent shell with a refractive index greater than that of the core was investigated. The luminescence spectra, radial field distribution and WGM parameters were calculated using the spherical wave transfer matrix method. It is shown that, for different shell thicknesses, the amplitudes of the peaks associated with radiation in WGMs of different polarizations (TE and TM) depend differently on the absorption coefficient: the amplitude of the TE mode radiation peak can be many times greater or many times less than the amplitude of the TM mode radiation peak.
