Dr. Ranjit Singh Kataria, completed his Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary & Animal Sciences (DVM) from College of Veterinary Sciences, Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, India in the year 1988 with honors and Masters in Biotechnology from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar in 1991. He was selected at the position of Scientist through Agricultural Research Services of Indian Council of Agricultural Research in September, 1993. He joined Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, as scientist, working in the area of development of molecular diagnostics and vaccines against viral disease of livestock and poultry, till April 2004. He obtained his Ph.D. degree also from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, in the year 1999, working on molecular epidemiology of infectious bursal disease, a major problem being faced by thepoultry industry of India at that time. He qualified for CSIR Junior and Senior Research Fellowships and was recipient of institute fellowship throughoutMasters and Ph.D.program. He was awarded with gold medal for the best student of institute during his Ph.D. After joining at National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal in 2004, his major areas of research have been diversity analysis of Indian buffalo populations using microsatellite markers and mitochondrial D-loop sequencing and immunogenetics of livestock species, particularly buffalo and documenting genetic diversity across immune response genes. He is recipient of first Dr. PG Nair best scientist award of the institute. He has 78research publications in national and 132in international journals, to his credit, besides having a US patent awarded. He is in thereviewers' panel of several national as well as international journals. He obtained training in the frontier areas of animal biotechnology from University of Minnesota and Iowa State University, USA and was also awarded six months' Overseas Fellowship by the Government of India in the year 2007. He served at the post of Head Animal Biotechnology Division of National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal, India from 2013 to 2022. His current major interests being exploring the genetic diversity of immune response genes of livestock species and understanding their role in differential immune response and understanding the effect of heat stress on semen production in buffalo bulls, through epigenomic, transcriptomic and whole genome sequencing studies.
